Team

Dave Klapp

Co-Founder — Technology
Dave is a licensed professional engineer, energy expert, and entrepreneur - with 18 years of experience.

Dave’s experience spans the utility, commercial, and industrial sectors with key projects in each. For several years he was Lead Engineer for the American Electric Power (AEP) Walnut Test Site, a nationally recognized microgrid leader. 

Dave developed and tested foundational microgrid systems. Following this success, he founded Advanced Microgrid Systems Inc., a microgrid engineering firm. Dave has authored several IEEE peer-reviewed articles on microgrid control and design. Dave brings this technical expertise to Crosswalk Energy.

Dave earned his BS in Computer Engineering from Clarkson University with a concentration in high voltage engineering.

Neil Collins

Co-Founder — Business
Neil Collins is a senior level executive leader with 30 years of success across varied industries, including energy.

Throughout Neil’s career he has created and grown brands that customers love and employees are proud to represent. He has developed powerful, demand-building strategies which have generated millions of dollars of business value.

Neil has led national brands at three different Fortune 500 size companies: GlaxoSmithKline, Bausch & Lomb, and Borden Foods. Later, Neil led rapid growth, as CEO of a nationally accredited, for-profit educational institution and CMO for IGS Energy, America’s #1 independent retail supplier of natural gas.

Neil earned his BA in Economics, cum laude, at Wesleyan University and his MBA at the Harvard Business School.

Thom McKenzie

Co-Founder — Finance
Thom McKenzie is a finance and organizational professional with 15 years of experience growing companies by improving controls and accountability. 

Thom has held leadership roles for prominent companies in environmental remediation services, construction, and insurance.

He has implemented companywide ERP systems, revamped financial and tax policies, and spearheaded initiatives to drive change in corporate culture. 

Thom earned his BA in Economics and his MBA in Entrepreneurial Finance from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business.

Tom Castor

Advisor — Customer Care
Tom Castor is a professional engineer with more than 30 years of experience delivering exceptional value to energy customers across a broad range of industries.

Tom invested much of his career in roles of increasing responsibilities with American Electric Power (AEP).

More recently Tom created eConsulting & Engineering, which has helped hundreds of clients control energy costs, saving millions of dollars.


Tom earned his BS in Electrical Engineering at Ohio Northern University, and his MS in Electrical Engineering at The Ohio State University.
